Emotional Appeals

For this assignment I had to choose a magazine, examine ten full-page advertisements, and figure out each emotional appeal. I also had to give reasons why the appeals I chose were chosen. Advertisers use emotional appeals to persuade the reader to buy their products by using different emotions in their advertisements. The appeals I used were the need for guidance, attention, the need to achieve, escape and physiological needs. My magazine was called fitness, which focuses on women’s health. This assignment is being made to see how advertisers see their readers.

In the middle of the advertisement, it says, “7 odors surrender to febreze freshness.” The need for guidance is the emotion appeal in this advertisement. The need for guidance is the need to be nurtured, protected, shielded, and guided. The reason this advertisement is the need for guidance is because it’s guiding me. It’s showing me how to get rid of the odors by using febreze.

4. New Balance Athletic Shoe
At the top of the advertisement you see women running in new balance shoes.
In the middle of the advertisement you see the new balance shoe and the words,” Let there be lightest.” The need to achieve is the emotional appeal in this advertisement. The need to achieve is to accomplish something difficult, to excel one self, and to succeed. The reason this advertisement is the need to achieve is because it’s telling the reader that this shoe is the lightest. This tells the reader that if you purchase this product you will succeed. Also, it tells them they will be able to run fast like the women in the advertisement because the shoe is the lightest.

5. Crystal Light
At the bottom of the advertisement it says, “there’s a better way to get more water.” Also, at the bottom there is a pack of crystal light, and the background is yellow.
