To me, in order to be a conscious communicator in the workplace, one must be able to communicate effectively verbally and nonverbally. The book defines verbal communication as both our words and our fillers (Quintanilla & Wahl, 2011, p.26). Verbal communication includes talking to a coworker face-to-face as well as electronic communication because verbal communication is using words, and both examples you use words to communicate. The book also defines nonverbal communication as the way we communicate without words (Quintanilla & Wahl, 2011, p.29). Effective communication includes not only the words one speaks, but also his body language. Being a conscious communicator allows you to sound and look professional, which are both keys when working in the business world.
