The Effects of Sleep Deprivation on Employee Performance The importance of sleep in organizational functioning is well recognized, however, it is apparent that no research has measured job performance as it directly relates to sleep. Employee performance in regards to an organization is defined as the ability to complete job duties and responsibilities in an efficient manner (Ballard & Seibold, 2004). Examining researches will expose which variables have already been explored in regards to sleep and employee performance. Several researches are correlated to these primary variables (Ballard & Seibold, 2006; Pettit, Goris, & Vaught, 1997; Ramadan & Al-Saleh, 2014).
