The painting was seen as a form of autobiography that later lead to the writing of the poem that was done in 1895. The three areas of focus include the bridge, a landscape that include a lake and the shoreline, lastly the sky which is bright red signifying the setting of the sun. The hills at the background create a bridge between the foreground and the background of the paint. The two figures at the edge of the bridge are drawn in upright straight just like the bridge while the separate figure is drawn in wavy lines like those of the sky and the hills. This is used to bring a connection between the separate individual and nature. The other two are not aware of their surroundings but the painter is one with nature hence he can feel and hear the scream of nature while the others do
