There are many roles principals must play as leaders of a school. They are not only a principal, but a listener, problem-solver, learner, supporter, mentor, and motivator, to name a few. Principals are driving forces behind a successful school. Educational leadership is a passion of mine. Being passionate about seeing students thrive in life and become life-long learners is important to me. You can make a difference as teachers for many students, but you can make a difference for an entire school as principals. The best ways to be effective principals are to have a solid understanding of who you are as a leader, relationships with all stakeholders, leading by example, and the confidence in your abilities. Principals are more likely to cause conflict if they start venturing away from who they truly are as leaders. Souers and Hall (2016) describe this as “cement shoes” (pg. 45). Creating a vision not only for the school, but for yourself helps you keep on track as to what type of leader you want to be. If principals have a solid vision, it will be much harder to compromise themselves and their beliefs. Creating Professional Development that is beneficial for the staff is crucial in not only keeping them engaged, but excited about these learning opportunities. This is one reason why I went back to school to get my master’s. Learning new things makes me excited and it is making me a better teacher for it. I chose educational leadership because I want to lead others to become the best they can be. Keeping learning upbeat and rewarding helps those staff members become more involved in not only their learning, but the success of the
