The Effects of ADHD: Real Case Scenario
Research about attention deficit hyperactivity disorder has been done by many people to see if there is a relation between inability to behave and cognate properly and ADHD. The experimenters need to figure out what ADHD does and how it works, they need to examine the executive functioning of children with and without ADHD, and they have to study what is happening, find out from parents how they relate, and then report it. In other words, how one is able to control themselves in appropriate ways to solve problems is the behavioral aspect of executive functioning. Metacognition, the other part of executive functioning is defined as the “…planning and organizational abilities to solve problems through appropriate control of working memory,” (228). To summarize that statement, how one is able to use their memory to be able to solve problems is the other aspect of executive functioning. Kerns and Sarah J. Macoun examined the relationship between children with ADHD and how their memory works. Memory plays a big role in how people behave and how they do the things they do. The authors were looking into whether or not ADHD affects children’s memory. The authors state, “They type of memory failures seen in children with ADHD may be due to dysfunction within certain cognitive domains important for memory…” (184). In other words, if the thinking part of the brain does not function right it may cause memory failures in children with
