BELL WORK - “Do Now”: “How would the ocean look if it were all dry land?”
GUIDED PRACTICE: Read and work with students to interpret information from text (pg. 181) and ocean handouts. Work with students to analyze and hypothesize the origin of oceans theories.
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE: Students will work in groups of four to define vocabulary words (ocean, sea, theory, freshwater, salinity, lake, river, underground water, oceanography). Student groups will complete “Label the Earth’s Oceans”.
CLOSURE: Review and discuss oceans.

GUIDED PRACTICE: Issue a 5 minute vocabulary quiz on words from 04/23/07. Q&A on the key concepts from the video.
INDEPENDENT PRACTICE: Students will write 2 paragraphs on video and 2 paragraphs on ocean currents.
CLOSURE: Asses and discuss student writings.
