In an alternate vote, voters rank the candidates they want to be president. They do not have to rank, meaning they can still place one vote for and that is it; and the voter does not need to complete the ranking system if they do not want to, that is the voter may only rank one and two only, leaving three and after not cast Voters cannot skip any numbers though, as in further explanation, this would cause for a ballot to be cast at stopping at the point of unconformity in the number sequence. If a voter ranks one – two – four, the ballot will stop being recast at two because, if needed, the third choice is blank and as such the ballot is fully counted at an end of sequence. In this manner, the ballot ranking does not count against a rank of four or five for a candidate the voter hates, but only rewards the candidates they agree with. Furthermore, if an individual does not like the ranking system they can fall back upon the older one vote per voter rule of the first past the post system, which they have the most experience with. However, this does not mean that one voter is able to obtain more than one vote, it merely immediately allows for a statistical opportunity for a vote in which the candidate with the lowest percentage of the vote to have not been in the race to begin with. The process is described as an instant run-off voting process. (Hawaii 2011) This …show more content…
The primary reason for the delay is the ballots are not just one vote but rather are a ranking system, meaning that one ballot is three or four ballots. That is to say, in the alternative vote “if the voters first choice does not win”, then their vote is “automatically revoted for the candidate they mark as the second choice”. (Grey2 2011) Thus, a more agreeable winner will be selected, without the fear of voting for a candidate only to have the opposing viewed candidate you don’t agree with win. Alternative voting means that those who believe it is unjust and unfair for the winner to be announced before all the states have finished reporting will be vindicated because after all the votes are counted the candidate with the least number of votes is “removed” and those who voting them as their first choice will have their ballots revoted for the candidate they put as the second choice. This further means that the bandwagon is eliminated because even if their first choice does not win, it is not a vote for the oppositional views; rather their votes count for the more popular candidate yet one closer to their views to the later. This situation means even if their number one candidate is a third-party losses, their views and ideals are still being expressed by the President of the United States.
