Sitting kids down and bombarding them with drug information is uneffective. The attention span of adolescence that don 't desire to know this information is quite short.. Prescription drugs are becoming a very harmful trend within the adolescent community. Also other things are changing, such as the legalization of marijuana. Ten years ago marijuana was still considered as the “gateway drug”. Marijuana being the “gateway drug” is saying that when anybody smokes weed they are at a higher chance of experimenting with other drugs because it is what it leads them to. Recently even programs such as D.A.R.E. have stopped listing it as the gateway drug. People came to the decision that maybe it wasn 't marijuana 's fault at all, and that it doesn 't affect it. When thought about when one is smoking marijuana they are automatically around much more people that utilize drugs. Those people that utilize the other drugs are the one influencing teens, not the marijuana itself. Also the difficulty in teaching the dangers of something that is becoming increasingly legal is becoming a problem. With marijuana becoming legal it is less of an issue than other drugs, though still needs to be addressed. But as times change so do the new trends.
