Drinking on College Campuses Underage students drinking on college campuses has been a problem for countless years. Parents and professors look over the problem of students drinking and look at their college life in a positive way. They understand the students to be studying, making new friends, or working. Instead, an abundance of students are partying and drinking at these parties. The transformation from high school to college causes stress to the students. Therefore, instead of the students looking towards studying more, they start partying to solve their problems. Once they start partying, it gets harder for them to stop and they become depressed. Students could use their spare time in college and obtain a part time job so they can be paid and study at the same time (Wechsler 1481, 1482). Parents like to think their children are busy with making friends, studying, or working.
The students aren’t making friends and studying like what the parents have perceived them to be doing. According to Ralph W. Hingson who wrote "Magnitude and Prevention of College Drinking and Related Problems," states the students who set off to college cannot wait to start partying. They think of college to be an escape from their parents where they can do what they want (Hingson 46). According to Robert B. Voas who wrote "Commentary on Fitzpatrick and Colleagues (2012): Forecasting The Effect of The Amethyst Initiative on College Drinking," states college students attend college at the beginning of the year ready to party because they don’t have parents there to tell them no. The parties they attend are usually hosted by junior or senior college students who can purchase alcohol. The younger students show up to the parties and are excited to be served alcohol and sometimes run overboard (Voas 1481, 1482). According to Denise M. Scott who wrote "Magnitude of The Problem of Drinking Alcohol on College Campuses, Commentary on ' Structuring a College Alcohol Prevention Program on the Low Level of Response to Alcohol Model: a Pilot Model'," states the college students are out at these parties all night so the next
