Some believe that it could be hard to change people’s habit. However, people’s behavior, in fact, will generally change if we keep encouraging them to do so. Different communication strategies could be used to transfer the messages to the general public and raise their awareness on protecting the environment. For examples, we could use the normative appeal to influence the citizens by telling them what other people are doing for the environment. By the social learning theory, people are likely to follow the crowd so as to prevent social rejection. Also, we may use the narrative tone to transfer our messages to the citizens by cooperating with broadcasting companies and try to include the messages in the stories of soap opera. The audiences are likely to imitate what the characters did in the soap opera and they may observe the benefits that brought by the actions promoted. In spite of the fact that time is needed to educate people and change their habit, this solution should be the most efficient to deal with the problem of domestic waste.
