Brazil is located in eastern South America and it borders the Atlantic Ocean. Popular foods depend on what region of Brazil you are in. In the northern part, vatapá, maniçoba, caruru, tacacá, and pato no tucup are all popular. In the southern part, barreado and arroz carreteiro are very popular. Some universal popular foods eaten throughout the region are: hog plum, yams, tapioca, cassava, chourico, pine nuts, acai, peanuts, and okra ("Brazil", n.d.).
Music plays an important role in the life of the Brazilian people. Some popular music genres in Brazil are: samba, bossa nova, lundu, choro, baiao, forro, and MPB (Musica Popular Brasilera – Brazilian pop music from after the 1960’s). The Portuguese brought over African slaves in the 1500’s and this led to Brazilian’s music being an Afro-European fusion (Ilich, n.d.).
Brazilians enjoy a variety of sports due to their moderate weather. The most popular sport would be football or what we Americans refer to as soccer. In 2014, Brazil hosted the FIFA World Cup. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Capoeira are two forms of popular martial arts that Brazilians enjoy. Footvolley, which is a combination of both football and volleyball is also a popular sport in Brazil.
