Human service is very broad field, “uniquely approaching the objective of meeting human needs through an interdisciplinary knowledge base, focusing on prevention as well as remediation of problems, and maintaining a commitment to improving the overall quality of life of service populations” (National Organization for Human Services [NOHS], n.d., para. 1).

“Career counselors assist people with the process of making career decisions, by helping them choose a career or educational program” (Bureau of Labor Statistics [BLS], 2014, para. 1). A career counselor can work in colleges, state government career centers, or businesses. A career counselor purpose is to help clients to figure out who they are and what they want to become. Also, career counselor will use various assessments, such as Myers Briggs personality assessment, Holland assessment, Self-Directed Search, and etc... By letting clients take those assessments, they can have a general idea of who they are and what their strength and weakness are. Also, those assessments can help clients to evaluate their skills and abilities. Moreover, a career counselor assesses clients’ background and education to help clients to choose a career that is realistic for them. Not only a career counselor help clients to research about themselves, but also counselor help clients to locate and apply for jobs. In addition, a career counselor assists clients to prepare for their job interview by conducting mock interview and creating resumes. A career counselor, who works in a college or university center, guides students/clients to make decision about career, choosing majors, and profession. As a service provider working with many different people, there will be a time you will have to deal with a conflict. It is important to be aware of how to handle conflict at work whether with a co-worker, student/client, or supervisor. “It then looks for how effective your strategies are at controlling others who are in an emotional state and whether you can successfully mediate to an acceptable conclusion” (Changing Minds, 2002-2014, para. 2). (4) Why do you choose career counseling as a career? Like mentioned beginning of this paper, within human services filed, there are many different professions to choose from. Being able to explain why you want to be a career counselor is important. Employers want to know how passionate and motivated about the career you choose. (5) What is the counseling theory or approach you follow? As a counselor, knowing the effective theories and approaches to use when helping students/clients is essential. Also, be knowledgeable about what kind of theory and approach that Tacoma Community College follow in serving students. (6) Describe a time when you completed work-related projects. Not only career counselor provides services to clients, but also a counselor should be able to creative in work-related projects. For example, organizing job fair is one of the events that are important that promote under the career department. (7) What will you bring to our students? It is important to know the
