One such company is Target. In 2007, at a Target store in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a number of Muslim cashiers had issue with, “ringing up products that contained pork” (Target shifts Muslims who won’t ring up pork, 2007). At one point, the customers would scan any items containing pork or bacon themselves or the cashiers would have other cashiers to scan those products so they would not violate their religion (Target shifts Muslims who won’t ring up pork, 2007). As long as employees make their needs known to their employer and the appropriate accommodation will not cause undue hardship to the company, employers must accommodate those needs in accordance with the respective laws. Not accommodating employees’ needs in terms of religion and disability can cause countless lawsuits and excessive time and money required to see the lawsuit through. Employees just want to perform their jobs but there are certain things that they ask for that would allow them to continue to remain employed with their companies.
