Luke Dobson is a 43-year-old man with severe learning disabilities and epilepsy. He has lived in a residential home for 10 years since his parents, who are now in their 70s, had difficulties in keeping him at home. However, they still visit Luke regularly and describe him as a ‘charming, strong and energetic man’. Luke cannot communicate verbally so he uses a mix of Makaton sign language and some of his own special signs.
