Someone that has ASPD is likely to be very cunning and charming. They are sly, devious humans, They are witty people that can maneuver their way through any conversation or person. Typically these people have a blatant disregard for the feelings of others and will use them for their own personal gain; and they will do so without a single glimmer of remorse. If being cunning and charming can’t get them what they want, they move to a harsher tactic of intimidation and exploitation. They are master manipulators that only care for themselves. However, people with this disorder will only retain their cool and collected demeanor while they are getting what they want or need. After they have tried both of the options above, they turn into a completely different person. The situation is comparable to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. As soon as these people realize that you aren’t going to comply with their wants, the threats begin along with the violence. With that being said, healthcare providers may look at the family for help. A key factor in the diagnosis is how the person in question can relate to others. Typically, after the healthcare provider does a medical evaluation to rule out any other type of disorder they will then begin the process of diagnosing the person in question. Diagnosing the patient is a fairly simple three step process. The first step is a psychological evaluation. This will examine their thoughts, feelings, and relationships, along with their behavior patterns and family history. After the psychological evaluation, if it is still thought that the person could have Antisocial Personality Disorder they will move on to step two. Step two is looking over their personal and medical history. This will look for signs of a conduct disorder in the past, or any other types of violent outburst. This step will also look for any type of childhood abuse that resulted in hospitalization. The third step is to look into the Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders. This book contains thousands of diagnosed mental disorders and their symptoms. The healthcare provider would look into this book to see if the person in question had the symptoms of Antisocial Personality Disorder. After all of these steps
