I was prescribed Prozac to help relieve my major anxiety and depression. This was a hard adjustment for me. I didn’t like the idea of having to depend on a drug to feel normal, but I figured it was worth a try. Today, I can reflect on how Prozac has turned my life around. Though I am extremely appreciative of the effects I feel now, it wasn’t always this way. Prozac, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor takes months to make a noticeable change, and can have some serious adverse reactions. These reactions are especially apparent in adolescences and in the first few months of starting the medicine. Prozac has been said to be a kind of drug that has a danger of making things seem worse before they get better. I definitely argee with this statement when I think of my experience. The adverse effects were overwhelming for me before I felt any better. In fact, I actually had increased anxious, impulsive, and suicidal thoughts, the very things I was trying to overcome. I had a constant stream of nervous thoughts in my head, including my past anxiety of being late. But at the same time, I didn’t really care about anything. It was a very contradictive state of mind. The representative I spoke to said I should have received a letter about it, however, I have changed addresses, and never received knowledge of this class. If given the opportunity, I would like to take this class and not have my license suspended. I need my license so I can drive to and from the University of Iowa for my classes (slightly over a two-mile drive). I currently have a 4.0 GPA and am part of the Golden Key International Honor Society, the world’s largest colligate honor society. I also had honors and a 4.0GPA in high school. I have worked very hard to excel in school, and it is of extreme importance to me. I am unable to even take the bus because the road with the bus route near my place, 5th street, is still under construction. Apart from school, I hope to get a job as a pharmacy technician soon to enhance my skills and serve as a stepping stone into pharmacy school. My dream is to become a pharmacist, to help people better their lives with the proper medication. Having a suspended license would push me behind, and I have worked so hard to get ahead. Not only did I have a pharmacy technician internship, but also a pharmacology technology class at Kirkwood that included working in pharmacies. Lastly, I would like to keep my license so I could still see my family in Cedar Rapids. College has been a stressful change for
