I forced myself to leave my warm bed and get ready for the day. The scent of bacon came from the kitchen. “Where’d you get the food?” I asked my dad when I saw him transferring the bacon from the pan to a plate. “Just the Safeway grocery store about 4 miles down the road after you went to bed. I plan on leaving here in less than an hour for river rafting. We depart at 6:45, so eat up.” Excitement filled within him, and it warmed my heart to see him so happy. Shortly after everyone ate, we headed to the Estes Park High School to be taken by small buses to the Colorado River. Once we arrived we were taken to the Rapid Transit Rafting building to meet our raft leader. A tall, stocky man around his late 20s stood with a smile from ear to ear in front a raft. “Hey everyone! I’m Parker and I'm going to be your guide today on your journey. Have any of you river rafted before?” “No sir.” my dad proudly announced with a grin. I gazed out the window examining every mountain we passed. A little over 15 minutes from the hotel, we pulled up to a white wooden sign placed in a small rock wall with the words “Rocky Mountain National Park Established in 1915.” My mom made my dad stop the car to get out and take a picture in front of the sign. Shayna and Emma stood on one side while my mom and I were on the other, meanwhile, my dad was in charge of the camera. After our picture, we got back in the car and parked.
