Throughout high school I began to notice my afternoons lacked purpose, I knew nothing besides school and home, so when my family was introduced to the Christian faith we began attending church four days per week. Soon after I became a member, then the children 's’ program needed a new volunteer and I felt it was my turn to make a change. Although I feared to make a mistake, I knew the children needed someone who would genuinely care and look after them. I was soon introduced to my new class and from the start, I sought to gain their trust. I longed to become a …show more content…
Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?
I looked around, only to find unfamiliar faces staring up at me, they were all kids just like me, however, their innocent, yet blank stares seemed to burn through my skin. It was the fall of 2006 and I was standing in Mr.Figueroa 's second-grade classroom appearing like a lost puppy. Fortunately, Mr. Figueroa, a tall man, with sympathetic eyes was Spanish fluent, therefore, I was at least able to introduce myself. However, he made the innocent mistake of asking me to introduce myself to the class as well. "Helloooo", my mind rehearsed, I couldn 't find the right sounds and I began to feel the embarrassment rise to my cheeks. I finally gave up and let out a simple, "Hola" causing the class to roar with laughter. The next scene was a blur, I remember running down the hallway, but not finding a

However, I realized that AVID was the best route for me since both of my parents did not attend college and do not comprehend the school system either. My parents are from a completely different world and I am also the oldest child, therefore, college seems like quite a stretch, but now after 5 years of “advancement through my own determination” and with the help of AVID, I am now sure college is for me I may no longer have the desire to be lawyer, but I maintain a high standards and I don’t plan on settling for anything less what I have planned for my future in helping

    1. After reflecting on who or what event provided me with leadership influence I concluded there wasn’t one person or one event that has had the most effect on me to strive to become a better leader or person for that matter. I attempt to take pieces from each of their leadership qualities, use things I liked and stayed away from their “bad” leadership qualities I did not believe helped me grow as a leader or produce quality jobs or mission results. All the while, my own personality and beliefs intertwined with their leadership styles to make me who I am today as a leader.…

Growing up, leadership has always played a huge role in my life. It has helped me grow as a person and allowed me to learn new skills. In middle school, I enjoyed working with my peers to organize events and help others. For example, as a member of my school’s choir, I took the opportunity to help organize concerts, design brochures and make posters to inform the school community about upcoming concerts and events. In addition, I took part in the fundraiser to help raise money for our music department at Carson.…

My leadership experiences are one of the most important aspects of my life because being able to contribute to a meaningful cause, as I did with Operation Smile and Wounded Warrior Project, is extraordinarily empowering and essential for character development. Additionally, my leadership experiences were ways of giving back to the community that nurtured me. Participating in Model UN and being a student leader at my church helped me to develop a sense of pride in my own voice, which is something that I hope to impart to others in my community. Cultivating tomorrow’s leaders begins with developing confidence in oneself, which I would always strive towards as a member of the National Honor…

These include renovating the art display case in the vocational building to represent our school’s eagle creed, attending lessons every weekend which indoctrinate leadership skills for students, and joining several extracurricular activities within the school. As a link crew leader I participated in organizing the freshman orientation, getting assigned a group of freshman to do activities with, and throughout the year visit a freshman classroom and do activities with them. Those activities varied, disguised as exciting games, they were actually great metaphors for skills that they could apply to high school and through life. I wanted to make this the best orientation ever for them and I wanted to make them feel comfortable because I knew what it was like to be in their positions, I was just as anxious and out of place as they were.…

AVID was something I’ve wanted to do, but only got to do for a semester, since I wanted to try other things with limited amount of elective slots that I had, but once I get three electives, I’ll make sure that picking AVID won’t be a semester long for me and instantly regret it when I finally have to start to think about college in my senior year. All I want is to do the best for me if it means that I can learn everything I need to know so I use my full potential once I get accepted and start attending the college I have to choose yet. My passion to be a teacher in the Catholic school system has started a long time ago when I decided the teaching profession was for me. I was just coming out of my Catholic high school and I had made a decision to take a Bachelor of Health Science Degree, in physical education and biology with the end goal to become a high school teacher. It was during this time when I noticed myself asking for help a lot and depending on God’s plan to determine my success. After that I started working as assistant supervisor in a psychological support centre for the international medical corps, where I had the chance to deal with very professional and creative people, the hardest thing was being accepted as the youngest member of the team and to be known as a leader , but being in this atmosphere…
