1a) Anthropology is the study of humankind. It is concerned with the relationships between human’s biological traits and the traits they pick up socially by living in a community.
In Population In Brief 2015, (National Population and Talent Division, Prime Minister's Office, Singapore Department of Statistics, Ministry of Home Affairs, & Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, 2015) it stated that Singapore’s population as of June 2015 was at 5.54 million, residing in 719.1 square kilometres plot of land. The population density is 7704 per square kilometres, making Singapore a densely populated city. With the population of the country projected to increase in the years to come, the time for one’s self and personal space are very much limited and constraint in Singapore.
The reason why people long for personal space can be traced back by looking at the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs – where it is broken down into 5 levels working its way up through Physiological, Safety, Social, Self-Esteem and lastly, Self-Actualisation needs. Maslow’s theory of human needs places personal space in the physiological need levels.

This is to ensure that they are able to sustain themselves by living on their own. However, this also means that those who earn more are eligible to buy bigger units. This is to ensure a fair distribution to all citizens, in relation to one’s economic contribution and what is required to keep up with the cost of living in Singapore.
