David Beckham Influence

Nowadays, when people talk about David Beckham, they not only talk about his sports glory, but also regard him as a successful global celebrity. According to Harris and Clayton (2007), David Beckham is one of the most important and symbolic athletes of the (post) modern times without any doubt. “He transcends boundaries in a way that few (if any) other English athletes have ever done and (together with his wife) has become a truly global brand” (p.219). Though many athletes like basketball players Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, they also made their names successfully into brands, but their related field is only limited in the sports area. Unlike others, David Beckham successfully transcend his sports career by referring to realms which include fashion, entertainment, charity and so on. In 2000, when he became the captain of the England team, he was regarded as a role model among young footballers in the country (Milligan, 2004). Later on, his career came to a new stage when he made a move to Real Madrid in 2003 and followed by a move to LA Galaxy in 2007 (Chainani, 2014).
