Reflective Essay Sample

My portfolio can be seen as a bowl of fresh fruit sitting on the kitchen counter. Each piece of my portfolio has different characteristics, just as each piece fruit has different features. Choose your favorite to read—no matter what piece you choose, it will nourish you with knowledge and entertainment. My portfolio contains five separate writings, each with a unique flavor. Open up my portfolio, and treat yourself to a healthy does of reading. The first paper I wrote, the autobiographical, can be compared to a watermelon. In my autobiographical essay, I wrote about my passion for running and how cross country fed this frenzy. Watermelon is one of the biggest fruits, but it has some of the tiniest seeds inside. My love for running is like the vast size of a watermelon—it was the big idea of the essay. All of the experiences I use in my essay are like the tiny seeds—they are the small details that make up the big idea. I can easily find comparisons between my descriptive paper and a pineapple. I can relate my process analysis essay to a kiwi fruit in many ways. The process essay was different than any of my other four essays because it was a group paper. A kiwi contains three different colors beyond the brown skin—green, white, and black. My group contained three members, in which we all wrote two steps. For the process analysis, my group and I decided to write about how to get in the Christmas spirit. Choosing a topic was like the hard-to-peel skin of a kiwi; it was a difficult to come up with a topic in which we all had the expertise. The kiwi skin also resembled our essay layout; it was a little hairy working out the order in which we should present our ideas. The organization of this essay was much different from others we wrote previously. In this essay we could use figures, and break it into sections to make it easier to read—like the sections in a kiwi
