With the fate of the world in our hands these jobs are important, and important jobs generally pay more. Green jobs are said to pay significantly better than their blue collar counterparts. An article written by the Center of American Progress shows a thirteen percent increase in wages for green jobs (DiPasquale,1). That totals to be a substantial amount of money that I myself know many families could use to improve their financial situations. Being a new job sector allows for growth and development, both of which would allow workers the opportunity to learn new skills for advancement. Learning new skills and on the job training would provide work experience that is necessary when applying for more complex jobs within the company. This would give companies the advantage of hiring from within. They would be promoting their own employees who have the environment, and the company’s best interest in mind. Even money hungry CEO’s know that to continue successful business practices, they need to think in terms of their future potential. Trzupek says, “Except for China’s not doing it. They’re paying lip service to “green power” as they happily build big coal-fired power plants at the rate of one per week, because it’s pretty obvious to the Chinese that cheap power is better for their economy than politically correct power” (Trzupek, 1). To this I say, we can be the leader, we can pave the way, and show the world the good that can ultimately come from a cleaner economy, and a cleaner environment. We can repower our planet in a safe way and create jobs in a market that many Americans feel have failed them. Our society currently offers little hope to someone living in poverty. Continuing to advance towards a green friendly economy will allow poverty stricken Americans job opportunities that they have once only fantasized about. It gives Americans the hope of once again being able to provide, and live the ‘American Dream’. Going green means providing a future for our children, and our grandchildren, a future that may not be possible if we continue to live in a highly polluted civilization. A more energy efficient, eco-friendly lifestyle is exactly what is needed in our American culture. It will allow us the opportunity to continue to grow our economy for future
