Interpersonal Communication Self Reflection

When I am faced with a critical incident some patterns that I see are, my ability to take a step back to organize myself, while also keeping my breathing in check. Since the first mindfulness practice, I have improved my ability to talk myself through these incidences so I can focus on what I need to do and have built more confidence in my skills. However, I still get flustered and frustrated when faced with difficult situations for example, not being able to draw up the medication. I just stopped, took a breath and focused on my task and when I was still unsuccessful, I turned to help which provided me with more knowledge of how to draw up the medication for next time. Viewing these experiences as a learning opportunity not just for me but also for the other students. These incidents have helped me improve my relational interplay between intrapersonal, interpersonal and contextual level (Doane & Varcoe, 2015). My interpersonal relationship has improved between my clinical teacher and myself, by my clinical teacher trusting me more for example, allowing me to teach another student how to remove staples. Showing me that my clinical teacher and myself have built a relationship of trust and understanding especially after I was able to recognize when I breached my sterility. My intrapersonal response has improved from building my self-esteem and decreasing my stress with a deep breath. In the contextual level, my response to the situations has improved by not working myself up and calling the appropriate help when needed. I have stopped viewing myself as a hazard to the other nurses since I am valuable and I am able to contribute which has helped my constitutionality, improving how I respond to situations.
