When we deal with September 1,1939 by Auden , we have to consider the historical context which the poem related to and the poet himself and his characteristics .
At the first point , we want to show that we will follow the Marxism school of criticism . This school has its name from the concept that refers to an economic system based on the public ownership and considered as the antithesis of capitalism. Wystan Hugh Auden who was born on February 21,1907 ,York ,England ,was such an intelligent student of Oxford University associated with other poets in "Auden Group " to start his writing of poetry . He travelled a lot and was affected by the communist revolutions in many places and revealed this in his poetry .
Auden had the ability to look back into history to find out the causes of his present conditions . He explored the formal territory that he had covered in his English years . He moved from private to public concerns occurred in the mid – forties . He became an interpreter of his society .
According to Marxist literary criticism ,the poet is formed by his social contexts ,and this was Auden himself .
