Is there really evidence that proves the world wide flood actually happened that is written about in the book of Genesis? The Bible tells us of the Great Flood, how it covered the whole earth. (Gen 17:7 [NKJV]) “Now the flood was on the earth forty days. The waters increased and lifted up the ark, and it was raised high above the earth.” The Bible also gives many clues to how the flood was able to cover the whole earth by God’s design. Many of us have questioned the Word of God; however, investigating to get answers will be the conclusion if the Great flood actually happened in a biblical proportion way as it said in Gen 17:7. Sometimes it is not the intellect of the investigation

The Sumerian Eridu (Eridu Genesis) (composed c. 1600 BC) is the second earliest description of the great flood, pre-dating the Biblical book of Genesis by 200 years, which is closely in line to Moses’ writing in the Pentateuch that was written around c.1440 B.C. Equally important, Moses had scribes to write down the accounts of the creation and the great flood of Noah’s day. In order to understand the culture of Moses’ time, memory and retelling a story was mirrored from one person to the next with great accuracy. Moreover, Moses was an educated man as the Bible would testify to in (Acts 7:22 [NKJV]) which is: “and Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds.” This was written from the Apostle Paul who we know was brilliant and well educated. The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest writing with a date of around c. 2000 B.C. which predates the Biblical writings of 600 years. Understanding this, there are three accounts of the Great Flood which would increase my belief that there was a flood. However, believing that there was some type of big flood; could that flood be big enough to cover the …show more content…

The creation myth of the Epic of Gilgamesh starts out with the introduction of the character Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh is the powerful king of Uruk and two-thirds god, and one-third man who is seen as one of the greatest things in Uruk. The Epic of Gilgamesh is a creation myth because Utnapishtim tells Gilgamesh that the gods are going to flood the earth and wipe out mankind as punishment , and he is told to build a massive boat for his family and “take aboard the boat a seed of every living creature” (143). Similarly, just as it states in our bible, Noah is told to build an Arc for the flood and bring two of every animal…

In Ovids version of the flood he had help from his brother neptune, while in Genesis it was only god creating the flood. In Genesis God intended for Noah and his family to live, although in Ovid, Jupiter did not intend for anyone to live but Deucalion and his wife happened to survive. In Ovids version the animals came from the Sun and water and the humans came from Deucalion and his wife throwing parts of the earth and it would sprout into human beings. While in Genesis on the ark that Noah built there survived a male and female of each animal so that they could reproduce. Even though the stories are similar in the results and the way they go, they have many factors that are not…

Despite them possibly being the same flood their is much diversity between the two due to slight cultural differences.…

In 2004, an article was published by Paul L. Maier which provided historical evidence of the Flood event described in the Bible. He states that the Flood recorded in the Bible, in Genesis 6-8, is also recorded by the Egyptians, Mesopotamians, and Greeks . Other such findings in his studies includes the Nuzi Tablets which include information about the practices described in Genesis such as marriage arrangements and ancient laws .This evidence gives proof that the event did happen and is recognized by ancient civilizations. This information is important because it gives credibility to the Bible and if schools want to teach hard facts supported by evidence, then what better place than in one of the oldest history books in…

The film, Noah, directed by Darren Aronofsky, written by Ari Handel was released recently in March 2014 and is based on the biblical event of Noah’s ark. Several historical books contain the story of Noah and early civilizations have flood stories recorded at around the same time period. It is hard to pin down what actually happened in the flood account because it happened in a very early time period and there are several different versions of the story. The film portrays the story of Noah in a very cinematic, intense, climatic way. The goal of the director was to make money based off of a popular biblical story, not to illustrate the event in a historically accurate way.…
