Why Do Professional Athletes Use Steroid?

The use of steroids has always been a problem for Professional and collegiate athletics and should be recognized for a bigger problem than what they consider it. Steroids are one of the easiest ways to cheat the system and is considered chemically cheating. The schools, The National Football League(NFL) and the NCAA should make the consequences of steroids more serious because these athletes get off the hook too easy. This is a problem that is overlooked because too many schools and NFL teams only care about winning and they don’t care how they do it. Now players in the NFL and college players take drug tests often, randomly throughout the season. They do this to prevent the use of steroids. Also the consequences are a lot harsher now because it’s now illegal to play any athletic event while using steroids. But some players do not abide by the rules and they do it anyway, but they pay the price for it. Also steroids have major effects that include long and short term effects. Short term effects include fatigue, agitation, decreased appetite, trouble sleeping, decreased sperm count and impotence. These are, the more minor effects, but let me tell you it gets a lot more serious. Some of the long term effects include strokes, heart attacks, cancer, anger, paranoia, delusions, kidney failure, tumors in the liver and blood borne diseases due to the injections. Also, it has major side effects, including shrinking in testicles, excessive hair growth in women, deepening voice for women, growth of breast tissue in men, fertility issues, heart problems, higher blood pressure, mania and menstrual irregularities for women.
