As the office administrator for Dr. Green and Dr. Jones physician 's office you gave me the job assignment of preparing a recommendation for a concierge service or expanding the physician’s office. First let me explain what a concierge service is and how the new service can expand the financial capabilities of our office or not. Second we will talk about expanding the existing practice with some mid-level medical personal such as nurse practitioners or physician assistants. With a concierge service the physician will see you in a timely manner and you as a patient will not have long waits in the waiting rooms. The physician will build a relationship with you and provide you with personalized care based on your needs. A concierge physician will include preventative measures in the annual physical that a normal physical wouldn’t normally covered such as certain laboratory tests or prescreening for Alzheimer’s disease. The physician may even make house calls to ensure your service is top notch if you as their patient cannot make it to the office but still are in need of their immediate services. The physician will check your insurance but you as a patient may be charged out of pocket for certain tests that the annual concierge fee doesn’t cover (Gerstner, …show more content…
When looking at the competition in the area its known that there is two other primary care providers in the area that can compete for the business of patients but this could be looked at as a good thing if the physician’s decide to turn into a concierge service because they could take their Medicare patients that make up forty percent of their patient load. Furthermore when thinking about customers they need to determine their patient load which is five thousand between two physicians with forty percent of their patients being Medicare. When thinking about your customer we need to determine how many customers you can keep while maintaining a good concierge service. When participating in a concierge service it’s recommended that a physician keep their patient load to six hundred patients to ensure their patients receive top quality care for the retainer fee that they pay annually (Gertsner, 2012). This means even now you have three thousand patients that are not Medicare patients and two thousand patients that are Medicare patients and would need new
