Both of the stories have a major plot devices, however one is internal and one is external to the characters. The plot device in Lord of the Flies, is a beast. In Lord of the Flies, the main themes that I noticed are; betrayal, bravery, survival, and fear. During the book, Ralph gets betrayed many times by Jack, someone who he believed was going to be his friend, the ending of the book is really when it comes to light. Also the next three themes exist throughout the entire book and are noticeable in every characters. The themes I noticed in The Maze Runner were; friendship, order, and fear. The theme of friendship is probably the main theme that I saw, all of the boys have to be friends in order to survive and to get back to civilization. Then order is the next most relevant theme, the boys do the same thing every day, and if not everyday then they do the same things all throughout their time in the maze. The order is what keeps everyone in line, so that way the whole society will run smoothly. Fear is a theme which was prevalent in both stories. The fear of what might be out there is how the boys bond and what keeps their societies running. This is the main theme that the two stories share.

The two pieces of work have many characters who possess the same qualities and hold the similar outcomes. Although the stories have different plot devices, both the maze and the beast, provide the story with something to grab the reader's attention. Then
