I asked some of my friends, family, and a few others what their definition of happiness is. “Money,” my friend, Jack Harl proclaimed. Does money really bring one happiness? “Do you think that having money has a lot to do with survival? Being that you’re a male, and women like guys with money (depending on which female you’re dealing with in my personal opinion),” I asked him. He then continued to say, “I need money not only for survival, but a little bit of happiness because it does influence things like women, and what I can do with my life.” Did he not just explain that he’s basically trying to compete for the highest revenue to get the best women and/or opportunities life has to give him? I personally believe money is only used for survival, nothing else. I understand where he’s coming from saying that money eliminates the stressful factors in life, but can it truly bring one happiness? I challenged his thoughts by asking, “But what if you fall in love with a girl that hates guys who idolize money? I completely agree with her. When you’re at peace with everything, you have nothing to worry about. When you’re at peace with everyone, there’s nothing too conflicting that is going on in your life. You can’t be happy with yourself if you continuously compare yourself to others and forget your purpose. With that being said, am I really happy? Well, being that I am working towards possessing a medical degree, one the hardest degrees to take on, obviously all of my classes are not going to be easy nor enjoyable. Not to mention the continuous amount of homework I have received thus far. Plus, I’m basically paying so much money just to feel tortured, so no, I am not happy. However,once I achieve my goal of becoming a physical therapist, I will have earned a lifetime of happiness. Although, it is sad saying that I have to earn my happiness.
