On Saturday, February 6th, I traveled to the 8th Annual Tack Swap hosted by the Stark County Jr. Fair 4-H Horse Committee at the Stark County Fairgrounds. This was the first time I had ever been to this event and I was attending to assist my good friend Amy with her booth. Amy is the owner and operator of a small scale western wear store, City Limits Western, which was going to be displayed at the tack swap and her husband Dusty, our friend Adriana, and myself were all recruited to help her out. We had been waiting for about ten minutes when finally a committee member, Julie, showed up to unlock the building. She unlocked the building door and proceeded to our truck to give us instructions on where to unhook the trailer for our booth. Dusty listened to her carefully and began driving toward the building. As we entered the building, Dusty carefully maneuvered the big, green, dually truck that was hooked to the long, black, box trailer between the support beams and drove back to the corner of the building where our booth would be set up. He managed to turn around the trailer and carefully back it up against the wall, leaving us plenty of room to unload and set up the space in a neat and orderly manner. By the time Dusty was finished and the trailer was parked, it was around seven o’clock which would give us about three hours to fully unload and set up all of the merchandise considering the event officially opened at ten o’clock. We began to work quickly because even though three hours seemed like a decent amount of time, we knew there was a great amount of work to be

11:00 am I wake up to a perfectly clean room with a perfect breakfast: sausage, pancakes, bacon, and cinnamon rolls all sitting right next to my bed. I eat my breakfast and get ready for the day. I go downstairs to see my friends Austen, Zach, and Elias down there holding four tickets to the Super Bowl game tonight and a jet sitting outside in the field. Slipping my boots on, my focus was fully on the task of getting my mare bathed and ready for the barrel race we were heading to that evening. My thoughts racing in my head as I reached for her halter and lead from the hanger on the tack room wall. I’ve realized in my lifetime that saddling a horse that you are going to ride is not as natural of an act to other people as it is to me. Since the moment I had both the strength and height to lift my own tiny saddle up to the back of my animal, I was saddling by myself. These days in the time that I set aside to ride, I don’t even think about the act of saddling, I could almost finish the act blindfolded. In my realization that not all people know how to saddle a horse and if they have an idea it may not be the proper way, I decided to share my knowledge in this area with others.…
