Cognitive theory is a learning approach in psychology that attempts to explain the behavior of humans by studying thoughts and reasoning process. The cognitive theory is founded on many other factors like cognitive reasoning and social cognitive theory. Aaron Beck founded the theory and it is meant to understand the human behavior by observing the processes triggered by reasoning and individual thoughts. The cognitive theory is a research based theory because it tends to investigate human behavior through making observations and thought analysis.

The cognitive behavioral therapy was founded on aims of alleviating conditions associated with stress, human development and community problems (Bandura 1999). The cognitive behavioral therapy is founded on several characteristics that involve multimodal therapy and behavioral changes. Most of the behavioral therapists consider their work dynamic because they address different problems among different clients.
Anxiety disorder is one of the disorders addressed through cognitive behavioral therapy. In addition, this approach addresses several characteristics, one of them being cognitive development. Phobia, anxiety and other socials problems are also addressed through this process. Diagnosis and recommendation of cognitive behavioral therapy depends on the condition of the patient.
Samuel Yochelson and Stanton Samenow started cognitive behavioral therapy with aims of addressing cognitive behaviors especially among the criminal population. The theory was started with aims of promoting positive behaviors among patients (Muñoz & Miranda 1998).
