Cliche Essay

A cliche can be a word, phrase, or opinion. What makes a cliche is the overuse of said word, phrase or opinion, giving the impression of the lack of original thought. Given a situation where a manager aspires to pep up employee’s before black friday, and the pep talk leads with, “Do not abandon ship!” to unify the group. The employee’s could humor the manager with the idea of teamwork, and they’re not going through this alone. On the other hand, the black friday from the past year had several casualties and the cliche the manager used could come off as ridiculous, possibly result in loss of credibility, or respect for not treating the event more seriously.

As a child, my dental records were nothing to be proud of. Sweets, soda’s, and sugared coffee were consumed often as well as fruits. Word got out throughout my family, then I was approached by my cousin whom was not much older than I. When she felt it was appropriate or humorous (when I was eating candy), she would say, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” My reaction consisted of embarrassment because she was watching me closely which eventually became annoyance. Out of her fun she overused the phrase and inevitably turned into a cliche for me personally.

Freshman Composition I’s course objective was designed to help students “focus on developing and expressing ideas clearly and effectively to communicate with various audiences for various purposes and occasions, through written, oral, aural, and visual venues by means of individual and team projects.” Throughout this course my classmates and I reviewed principles of the writing process, including: planning, logical organizational, development strategies, revision, and editing, we were also introduced to rhetorical techniques and vigorous library research. With those techniques, this course has helped my classmates and I develop critical thinking skills like: summary, paraphrase, analysis, evaluation, and synthesis of multiple sources. Before I began this class my writing process consisted of simply being assigned as assignment by my high school english teachers and coming up with an essay at the top of my head that properly fit the space requirement and prompt that I would then turn in the day it was due.…

One paragraph that stood out to me and was especially interesting was paragraph thirteen in CR3 A,” Who’s Cheap.” This paragraph was extremely successful as it summed up the double standard that exists and that is not talked about not enough. Some women still believe that the men should do everything; that there are fixed roles for gender in marriage and in dating. As Cheap stated on page two, “As a woman, you are so genetically precious hat you deserve attention just because you grace the planet. So, of course, he should buy you drinks.…

The issue of declawing is being made more obvious to the horrors it can cause to your beloved feline friend. When an onychectomy, otherwise known as a declaw, is performed it is equal to cutting off your finger at the first knuckle. The bone of the third phalanx is removed, it is not just cutting the nail off. Cat's nails retract, by cutting into these muscles and tendons you risk serious long-term physical and emotional impacts. 61 of 163 cats experienced chronic pain for 1-42 days after the surgery ("American Veterinary Medical Association", 2016).…

Motivating the Unmotivated Office Staff I. Introduction This research element focuses on the need to motivate clerical staff in a school. The clerical workers play a valuable role within the school setting. It is the clerical workers that actually keep the school operating (e.g. ensuring that classrooms are covered when teachers are not at work, maintaining student’s records, meet deadlines, screen telephone calls for school administrators, listening to the complaints of angry parents, and many other daily tasks). Many of the clerical workers become unmotivated about their job when the workload is continuing to increase because the faculty pushes off the work they choose not to do; and the income is extremely low.…
