Compare And Contrast The Chinese Civil War And American Civil War

The American Civil War took place between the Union and the Confederate and the Chinese Civil War of 1946-1949 took place between Kuomintang and the Communist Party. Both played important roles in countries’ history, the American Civil War and the Chinese Civil War of 1946-1949 have some similarity such as the effects and consequences of the war, but the purpose of the war and the treatment toward citizens during the war time are different. In fact, both the American Civil War and the Chinese Civil War of 1946-1949 are important to the unity and future development of the nation.
The American Civil War was between the Northern States and the Southern States. The cause of the American Civil War is very complicated, but mainly because of slavery.

Also, the intentions of the Communist Party and the Kuomintang are totally different. The Kuomintang believed the Three People’s Principles can make the nation more democratic and liberal. However, the Communist Party followed the ideas of Marxism-Leninism. The difference in intentions between these two parties made the Kuomintang decided to purge the Communists in the Party and suppress the Communists.
The treatment toward citizens between the American Civil War and the Chinese Civil War was totally different. During the American Civil War, in order to destroy the resistant will of the Confederate, the Union took the strategy of destroy South’s military resources completely. Soldiers from the Northern States looted everything they saw no matter they were military supplies or personal properties. In 1865, the Union military had already destroyed two thirds of the South’s total assets. The big lose irritated the Sothern States’ soldiers and they began to revenge which leaded to a big loss to the Northern

After the American Civil War, the United States became a unity. The slavery had been abolished by Abraham Lincoln. Although there were still a strong inequity between African Americans and White Americans, at least the black people had civic rights and the right to vote. Also, a lot of advanced weapon had been invented during the American Civil War which made American military power stronger than other countries after the war.
