Theres many circumstances on how much the parent gets in trouble that was inflicting the abuse on the child. The offenses can range from a lifetime in jail, to almost no jail time at all. If the offender has had a past of getting in trouble with the law that can also be something that gives them more of a chance to get in more trouble with the law.
