Advertisements are one of many things that Americans cannot get away from. Every American sees an average of 3,000 advertisements a day; whether it’s on the television, radio, while surfing the internet, or while driving around town. Advertisements try to get consumers to buy their products by getting their attention. Most advertisements don’t have anything to do with the product itself. Every company has a different way of getting the public’s attention, but every advertisement has the same goal - to sell the product. They are trying to sell their product by showing how everyone uses Charmin as their toilet paper, even bears in the woods. The bears do not need to say anything to sell the product, instead the artist use the bears facial expressions to speak to the audience. By showing the bears happy when they are grabbing the toilet paper, and using written words on the screen, it shows how soft the toilet paper is. Also how much more toilet paper there is in Charmin than the other brands. The bears seem to take an awful lot of toilet paper and the roll never goes down. Maybe it really works like that, or maybe it is just the artists and their ability to use animation to trick the audience.

An appeal that the Charmin commercial uses is ethos. For example, the author of this commercial obviously thinks that Charmin is the number one brand for toilet paper. That is all an opinion though because everybody has different tastes. Since the author believes that Charmin is the best toilet paper around, it must also mean that the author believes that it is the softest and longest lasting toilet paper.

Another appeal that is used is pathos. The bears set off an emotional aspect that gets the audience to watch the commercial. They are so lovable, unlike most real bears, and they are cute. The commercial makes some people have sympathy for the bears
