With all successful books and plays, there eventually comes a movie adaptation. Such movies can never represent the text exactly, but some do more justice to the original work than others. For plays as influential and complex as Shakespeare’s Hamlet, there exists a wide and varied selection of movies that attempt to interpret the ambiguities of the play. Two very well-known screen adaptations have Ethan Hawke and Mel Gibson, respectively, playing the lead role of Hamlet. As staying true to the play is a critical point in making these movies, the interpretation the two directors took on Gertrude and Claudius’ relationship and Hamlet’s sexuality ultimately affected Hamlet’s mental state.…

This only makes her look defenseless and makes it seem as if she’s too reliant on others. She can’t seem to make her own choices as they’re already made for her. For example, in 1.3 Laertes warns her of Hamlet by saying, “For Hamlet, and the trifling of his favor, hold it a fashion and a toy in blood”(5-6) which Ophelia takes into consideration.…

Hamlet and Ophelia 's relationship in the play "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare is very passionate, confusing, violent, and tragic. Many claim that Hamlet fooled her and that he never really loved Ophelia, however I disagree. Hamlet surely loved Ophelia, and Ophelia felt the same. They definitely cared for one another, for Ophelia claims to her father, Polonius, that he "hath importuned [her] with love in honorable fashion", and if he had not loved her then he wouldn 't have gone to all that trouble to make her believe he did; especially with all the family issues going on in his life at the time, revenge and love are too much for him to handle together (act 1, scene 3, page 23, lines 110-111).…
