On March 2, 2015 Ted Cruz announced his candidacy. Since then, he has consistently moving up in the polls. Cruz speaks on behalf of passionate Republicans desperate for change. Currently, he holds the fourth highest polling percentage amongst the Republican candidates. Cruz can win because of his high voter demographic in large groups, campaign strategies, and his views on issues. Although, his campaign needs to change direction in order to beat Trump, Carson, and Rubio.

Cruz has a strong White, Christian, and upper class following, similar to many Republican candidates. To gain more followers he must reach out to more minority groups and separate himself from the others running. Currently the United States racial makeup consists of 77.4%

“A Time for Truth” started the epidemic of emotionally driven Ted Cruz advertisements. The video targets Conservatives because Cruz says, “It is going to take a new generation of courageous Conservatives to make America great again.” The message conveys the idea that America can be great again. He doesn’t achieve his purpose by attacking any opponent, instead he inspires Americans. They used average citizens to show that Cruz can and will represents all Americans as president. Another strategic video advertisement released by Cruz for President is “The Scorpion”. The advertisement plays off of Reagan’s commercial “Bear in the Woods”. Cruz’s video persuades voters that want to see change within the government. Democratic candidates are painted in a negative light because they are the Scorpion with poisonous venom, ready to “strike again.” As important as video advertisements can be on Cruz’s election there seems to be some different marketing strategies getting Cruz into the spotlight, the National Prayer Team. Senator Cruz’s faith separates him from most other Republican and Democratic competitors. As a result, Cruz created a prayer team amongst him and his followers. He said, “Our nation is in desperate need of God’s favor: these are dangerous days for America, but these are also days of great hope” (National Prayer Team). As surprising as it may sound, this form of self promotion may be one of the most important aspects of his whole campaign. It reaches out to the greatest practiced religion in the United States and makes Ted Cruz relatable. Cruz and his team have displayed intelligent marketing strategies can push him ahead in the polls and will gain him the title of President of the United

One of the many privileges and freedoms we have as Americans is the freedom to pick the future president of our country. This year our final candidates we had to choose from was either Donald J. Trump or Hillary Clinton. By the end of the race Hilary had more support from the people, so naturally we thought that Hilary was going to win the election. However, when the results of the Election came back, and we found out that Donald J. Trump won it got me wondering how did a person who had the least support of people than his rival win. from all the research conducted it is obvious that Donald Trump won because: of the Support from White Americans, he also promised to bring jobs back to the working middle class Americans, and The Support of Suburban White Women.…

Tobias Wolff’s “The Liar” from his collection of short stories entitled Our Story Begins tells the story of James, a teenage pathological liar who, after the death of his father, begins to fabricate gruesome stories about his life. James’ mother, Margaret, a devout Christian who is disturbed by her son’s constant lying, relies on the assistance of both God and the family physician to help “cure” him. Wolff structures this story tactfully, revealing significant information in a way that seems natural and deliberate. He drops the reader into the story with very little background information about the characters, gradually revealing key information about their pre-existing lives as the story progresses. Through the use of small details, Wolff…

The slogan that propelled Donald Trump into his influence across the nation, “make America great again,” shows that Trump sees America has fallen downhill and has hopes to improve it. Trump wants to see this country go back to the prosperous country it once was, but he does not know how to filter his words according to most, which makes him seem frightening. Despite Clinton’s accusation about the risk of Donald Trump, his clever use of scare tactics gives voters a sense of security because of his ideas concerning immigration and terrorism. According to Molly Ball, author of “Donald Trump and the Politics of Fear,” Donald Trump uses fear to his advantage in hopes of winning the presidential election.…

According to Specter, science has been the transformative force, which has remarkably improved the society in the last thousands of years. He argues that this happens to be the best time in society, in terms of mobility, wealth, health, and opportunities. Jerit discusses the use of rhetoric through a political lens based on the effectiveness of arguments. She constitutes effectiveness as the sustainability and repeatability of techniques used to deliver the points of the candidates. The reason for negative appeals is that, “candidates have strong incentives to evoke emotions such as anger, fear, and anxiety; thus, appeals that are high in emotional content will survive longer than other types of arguments” (564). When using emotional appeals, it is easier to deliver a simple and uniform message than to speak on specific issues. How persuasive a candidate is perceived as depends on their delivery techniques.…

Throughout United States history, there has been debate about immigration. From the bias against Irish immigrants in the 19th century to fear of Syrian refugees in the 2016 presidential debates, nativists have stood resolutely against migrants seeking better lives in a country citizens view as their own. This fear and possessiveness leads to bias and stereotyping of the groups coming into the United States at a particular period of time. In the 21st century, nativists have focused their fears on Latin American migrants, especially those crossing the border from Mexico, creating a “single story” (as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie illustrates in her Ted Talk, “The Danger of a Single Story”) describing them as lazy, delinquent people who take advantage…

Summary: The persuasive piece that I have chosen to use for my rhetorical analysis is a transcript from a TED talk by Paul Root Wolpe titled, “It’s time to Question Bio-engineering”. Wolpe is an ethicist who studies the implications of the new sciences, is the head at the Center for Genetics at Emory University, and is the chief bioethicist for NASA. He begins his talk by presenting the audience with examples of selective breeding in animals and mentions many hybrid animals such as “beefalo”, “cama” and “geep”. When Wolpe brings up the discussion about these hybridized animals, he conveys to the audience what could possibly happen if bio-engineering continues to evolve and especially if it is used in humans.…
