Possible Solutions To Global Warming

Decent Essays
Today, one of the biggest crisis that the world is facing is global warming. Despite some doubters, scientists have proven that the current production of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide is having devastating effects on the atmosphere. Every time someone flips on a light switch, they are tapping into the world’s supply of fossil fuels. The fossil fuels that are the main sources of energy that we have access to are coal, petroleum, and natural gas. According to The Center for Biological Diversity in 2005 eighty-six percent of the energy used throughout the world was produced by fossil fuel combustion and the United States combustion rate came in at around eighty-five percent. This accounts for eighty percent of all greenhouse emissions …show more content…
On the national level in an attempt to aid the reversal of the evident current global warming crisis, one possible solution to do is switch the main energy source from oil, coal, and gas to renewable energy like hydropower, solar power, and biomass. However, there is excessive of more research that needs to be completed before this can even start to be done. this solution would be very difficult and expensive to execute taking many years to actually make a difference. Another possible solution is to stop deforestation and plant more tree because trees absorb the carbon dioxide and produce energy. Reducing the practice of deforestation can lower global warming and could lead to a long-term solution. The nine hundred million trees that are cut down each day due to tropical deforestation accounts for ten percent of the world’s heat trapping emissions. The emission caused by deforestation equals the average emissions of six hundred million automobiles in the United States. Without the trees that are cut down the atmosphere has to consume all the carbon dioxide and other gases that are produced worsening global warming …show more content…
CF light bulbs uses more than two-thirds percent less energy than a standard light bulb and have been proven to last longer than the currently used light bulbs. The average standard light bulbs have a longevity of 2,000 hours while the CF bulbs feature up to 35,000 hours of use. The standard sixty-volt watt fixture could be using as little as thirteen volts of electricity if the Compact Fluorescent Light bulb is utilized. They met EPA and U.S. Department of Energy guidelines for energy efficiency. Not only are the bulbs better for the environment they will also be productive in saving the University

Since the start of the modern era, energy production and consumption have been major players in the world economy. Much of the developed world’s society and industry is heavily reliant on energy production. The United States total consumption of energy is 40% coal, 27% natural gas, and 19% nuclear. All the combined renewable energy sources are less than 13% of the total energy consumption in the US (“US Energy,” 2014). As the nation’s economy grows, consumption rates rise, and energy plants produce more.…

In recent decades, scientists have confirmed that the burning of fossil fuels has led to an increase in the Earth's temperature that eventually could render the planet uninhabitable. When fossil fuels are burned, they release greenhouse gasses that over the years, have slowly caused the Earth's climate to change. The harmful effects of climate change have caused rising sea levels, an increase in extreme and destructive weather such as hurricanes, a dramatic drop in crop yields, and the extinction of certain species and endangerment of many others. It is vital to find cleaner alternatives to these fuels and instances such as the company British Petroleum spilling millions of gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 is only destroying our…

Carbon dioxide emissions continues to be a relevant controversial issue in today’s society. this statement is used so many times and heard over almost everywhere media. However, it is one of the causes of the environmental destruction. Garbage and pollution are the other two major with many minor aspects that all lead to only to one final resolution: desolation of ecosystems and destruction of living conditions for us. With all of that trash and pollution in the world, it is one of the leading effects of methane gas making it into our ozone layer and heating the atmosphere that leads to the degradation of our natural living…

Article Summary The article written by Al Engler discusses the possibility that the increase of carbon dioxide in the air is a leading cause in forwarding the effects of global warming. Due to the increase of this (and other) greenhouse gases, consequences of global warming will continue to escalate until we put a stop to adding to the natural greenhouse effects with our own carbon emissions. However, as Engler states, “The problem is capitalism.”…

According to Burroughs tropical deforestation increased from 11.8 million per year in the 1970’s to 15.4 million in 1980s (pg. 98). Deforestation and forest degradation is a fifth of global greenhouse gas emissions. Forests have a vital role to play in the fight against global warming. Forests and it soil can help absorb and store carbon dioxide and harmful gasses, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide and release oxygen (Schimel p.135), but if forests are cleared or disturbed we will lose out on the benefits of having tons of tress. Trees can converse water to air vapor which help reduce heat.…

Thesis: Our energy comes predominantly from fossil fuels because of it’s supposed inexpensiveness. However, the cost of fossil fuels in terms of human lives is often ignored. Nuclear power, on the other hand, is a much safer alternative because it results in fewer deaths per unit of energy produced than coal and natural gas. By comparing their outputs in terms of energy produced per unit of fuel consumed, and comparing that with the amount of byproducts produced as well as the amount of deaths associated with both energy sources we can analyse their relative harmfulness.…

If we don’t try and reverse and reduce these effects, we could be seeing these effects for centuries to come. Our grandchildren could grow up without a rainforest and have to deal with rampant climate change and higher CO2 emissions. We can combat this issue by electing the correct public officials who will help and finance efforts to battle climate change. This includes the correct president, as Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton believe in and are willing to battle climate change; but Donald Trump and Ted Cruz claim that climate change does not exist and is being used for financial gain. Electing the correct officials is not the only way we need to help combat this issue.…

The subject of climate change has been hotly debated over the past decade. It is now obvious that the climate is changing and that it is more than likely going to cause problems in the future. The amount of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere has considerably increased since the Industrial Revolution. As fossil fuels such as coal, natural gas, and crude oil are burned, carbon dioxide is discharged into the atmosphere where it is trapped. This is called the greenhouse effect and although essential to the survival of all life on Earth, this process has gotten out of hand recently.…
