Carpentry Research Paper

Carpentry- "The activity or occupation of making or repairing things in wood." A carpenter regularly uses trigonometry on an everyday basis to assist with the job. Making precise cuts (On wood, braces, etc) can make or break a person in this profession. Math plays a very heavy role in carpentry, specifically the branch of trigonometry. (Carpentry). There is a variety of skills needed for carpentry. One needs to especially be skilled in math, particularly trigonometry. A carpenter on site, needs to determine how big to make a cut, or how to solve a problem they may have. A carpenter needs to make sure they are making the most of every minute on a project, and to ensure they are not wasting the time of others. Critical thinking is needed to found solutions to problems a carpenter may face. Active listening allows a carpenter to listen to their employer, and to make sure they are asking any appropriate questions to make sure the job they are working on can be the best possible. Active learning is required, and allows the carpenter to learn from previous mistakes, and on how to improve the quality of one's work on a daily basis. Everyday a carpenter can learn something new, wether it be on how to solve a problem they have, or to make their creations of more quality. Judgment and decision making are vital skills needed. One can also go to an arts school (College) and get a carpentry certification, but it is not mandatory to have one. A want-to-be carpenter needs to have a general understanding of algebra, and trigonometry to excel at their job. They also can gain knowledge of carpentry through a three to four year apprenticeship with a construction company, or a building contractor. These opportunities allow a carpenter apprentice gain on hand training, as well as class room learning. In the classroom, an apprentice would learn: How to read blueprints, first aid, basic mathematics, sketching, specifically free hand, and most importantly work site safety. A carpenter's work zone can be very dangerous, and one needs to learn how to be safe on the job site. The apprentice on the job site will learn the "properties of wood, metal, glass, concrete, plastic, and other metals, They also learn about exterior and interior finishing, structural design, layouts, and from building to rough framing. It is recommended that all people who want to become carpenters go through an apprentice class as they will learn the important values of carpentry, and the safety that is needed to go along with the job."
