As a Project Manager for the Los Angeles Parks Foundation from 2012 to 2014, I implemented over $4 million in public-sector capital improvement projects. This involved drafting requests for proposals, contractor and subcontractor agreements, right of entry permits, and contract completion statements. One of my main responsibilities was to perform regular on-site inspections and ensure compliance with our contract performance standards. Normally, our staff is instructed to defer all such requests to the PIO, but since the PIO would not be available all week, I documented the journalist’s request and relayed it to the PIO via email, along with a proposal for me to fulfill it. Once my PIO approved my proposal to fulfill the information request, I contacted the journalist immediately and explained to her the following steps in the process, and explained that I would “fast-track” the request. By acting quickly in response to her complaint, and assuring her that I would be accountable for fulfilling it, I defused the situation to a level where she did not file a formal complaint. I fulfilled the request within the week, and with additional helpful information to her inquiry. By the end of the transaction, the customer expressed that she was very happy with the service she
