In class we did an experiment to help the Alley Cat Bowling team build a successful bowling lane, and we had to answer the question ,what recommendations will you give to the Alley Cats to help them win the bowling championship? Before this experiment, I had to research some things about energy. Energy is a property matter, and all matter has it. In other words its ability is to do works. Also, there are many other forms of energy like, sound, heat, friction, electrical, nuclear, and mechanical energy, ext. In this experiment there was potential, kinetic, heat, friction, and sound energy. To calculate the potential energy the formula is (Ep = m*g*h) and the kinetic energy formula is (Ek = 1/2mv2) …show more content…
The decision came to, the bowling pins are paper note cards, and the bowling balls are marbles. Then I had to decide what was going to be my independent variable. I could have changed the slope of the bowling lane or I could have changed the mass of the bowling ball. I decided to have two textbooks as my slope. I picked this because two textbooks does not have a too high of a slope or a too low of a slope. Also, I decided on doing four trials and having four different bowling ball masses. When the experiment started, we collected the data by timing the marble from start to finish. After the marble stopped, we would measure from where the marble started and where the marble ended. To see which marble had the better experiment I would compare the different sized …show more content…
The first experiment had the highest potential energy which is 3786.034 J. The first experiment also has the highest kinetic energy. This was 75552.50572 J. This experiment showed potential, kinetic, and sound energy, friction energy, and heat energy. The marble showed potential energy when it was at the top of the textbooks and the marble showed kinetic when it was rolling down the pool noodle. Potential is stored energy and kinetic is energy that is in motion. When the marble was rolling down the noodle it may have had friction and this could cause heat energy. This experiment does show and follow the law of conservation of energy by turning potential energy into kinetic energy. cannot be created or destroyed, but only changed from one form into another or transferred from one object to
