As a Christian we are called to look at all of life, even business, through the eyes of faith. Meaning, “we are called to see the world as God does” (p.xi) this is the opening line from Chewning, Eby and Roels in 1990 from the book Business: Through the Eyes of Faith. When we examine our Christian walk, we generally don’t think about business or our work. But God created us to work and gave us certain talents to fulfill His purpose. Chewning et al. gives us many ideas and principles in this book to help guide us through everyday work trials. Some of those principles include personal goals and business, a Biblical understanding of human nature, justice and opportunity in the workplace and communication. Equity is defined as this: “the quality of being fair and impartial” (oxforddictionaries.com). Other words that are used to describe equity are honesty, even-handedness, nonpartisanship, and righteousness (thesaurus.com). When I think of righteousness, I think of God. He is a righteous God, a fair and equal God. So if we are to act righteous here on earth, we must be equal to all. Chewning el at (1990) states that “Biblical justice refers to the ways relationships are structured so that there are no built-in disadvantages to any individual or group of people” (p.27) which is an indefectible lesson in true righteousness. Psalm 106:3 says “blessed are they who observe justice, who do righteousness at all times.” When we think of justice though most of us think of criminal or civil justice, a righting of a wrong. It’s not just the word justice, it’s two words: Biblical justice. Some characteristics of Biblical justice are a deep concern for the wellbeing of others and treating others with respect and without prejudice. While you are dishing out all types of justice, you must do it with kindness. “Justice focuses on what we do; kindness focuses on how we do it” Chewning el at. (1990) quoted. (p.32). As seen in Psalm 89:14, both justice and mercy are foundational to God’s character, and after all, we were created in His likeness, so we should put these two tendencies into practice in our eveyday
