The goal is to provide the artisans with knowledge about economy, production, design, and marketing of their own products.

The education consists of workshops within the above-mentioned areas and the artisans also go on field trips to markets in the larger towns.

The course finishes with a market presentation for buyers and designers.

Bestseller has made an agreement with Kala Raksha to support the building of the first phase of the design school complex, workshops, a student’s dormitory, offices, and an exhibition hall. All the buildings are kept in a traditional style using old and recycled building elements, such as doors, windows, and tiles.

Bestseller plans to transfer as much knowledge as possible from Kala Raksha’s pioneering work and use it to build up similar design centres for traditional crafts in other places in South Asia.
