20th Century The Twentieth Century may be described in many different ways depending which topic you are researching. During this time one of the major topics was the Black Freedom Struggle. This was a time that slavery continued with African Americans and eventually became more of a culture. Slavery had been around at least 200 years before the Civil war had begun. This was one of the only populations that continued to grow under slavery. The population of slavery was huge when the war had begun there was a problem to this though. No one during this time expected slavery to end. Lincoln knew though that he had to end it in order to win the war. This is when he took actions. This had tremendous results. There was many topics that took many years to develop. Another example of this would be women’s rights. Women had worked with this in many ways they used it to gain voting rights along with political movements. By the 1920s, millions of women could vote in the south and many of them voted for republicans even though the south supported democrats. Oddly by the 1950 started to take the history roll backwards. There was more women in the 1930 that worked and went to school then in the 1950s. By 1960 this changes again this is when they start to say it is not fair to judge by race or gender. Through viewing these example of events that happened that took many years to happen such as urbanization and realizing that in ways history started to resemble itself. When the Great Depression happened the new developments had currently took place. This was a major cause of the depression was not having regulations on these things. Over time history builds on itself, if we do not pay any attention to previous problems then these things are going to continue to
