Somatic cells are diploid, as they only contain two chromosome strands which are each inherited by each parent which are made by chromatids and held together with the centromere, and they are every cell in the body except reproductive cells. Mitosis has five stages in cell division; prophase, pro-metaphase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase, they also contain a sixth stage called cytokinesis. Just before these stages take place there is interphase, which enlarges the cell, replicates the DNA and the cytoplasm from the parent cell to be later placed in each of the daughter cells and prepares for the cell to divide. It carries out these acts through G1, S and G2 stages. The last important instrument of cell cycle is meiosis, it is a type of sexual reproduction the eukaryotic cell can causes, after the replication of the DNA, the number of chromosomes to reduce from a diploid to an haploid set of chromosomes by separation done from homologous chromosomes, then they can then be placed into each of the individual daughter cells. The biggest differences between mitosis and meiosis is, mitosis only cause one cell division, the cells are then completely identical, it reproduces asexual and makes everything other than sex cells, whereas meiosis can cause two cell divisions to occur, it then by this causes the cells not to have completely identical chromosomes, it reproduces by meaning of sexual reproduction and it can occur in sex …show more content…
There is thou huge differences between both stages such as mitosis only carries out one cell division of haploid or sometimes even diploid which ends with the production of two daughter cells whereas meiosis carries out two cell division of diploid cells which produces four cells. Mitosis has no crossover which makes the daughter cells identical to the parent cell whereas meiosis has one at least crossover with one set homologous chromosomes with causes variation among its products. In mitosis the chromosome number in each of nucleus of its two daughter cells is maintained from the parent cell whereas in meiosis the chromosomes number is halved in the new cells of
