A. Diffusion of selected plant pigments

In conducting the diffusion of 4 different kinds of treatments (distilled water, distilled water placed in boiling bath, vegetable oil, heated vegetable oil), the researchers made use of the atsuete and sugar beets. The different kinds of treatments determined how the temperature will affect the color intensity of the atsuete and sugar beets. There were 4 test tubes used in each atsuete and sugar beets with each having a different treatment as seen in (fig 1) and (fig 2). The color intensity in each tube is divided into +,++, or +++. Yellow being the lightest (+) and the red being the darkest (+++). As seen in the results, Both the atsuete and sugar beets showed a strong color intensity for distilled water placed in a boiling water bath and the vegetable oil that was heated as seen in table 1 below.

As seen in the (Fig. 3) it showed that water placed in the cells were filled with violet colored sap inside the cell (wet mount) It was turgid. This is because of water abundance in and out of the cell. After removing the water and replacing it with the 5% salt solution, the protoplasm shrunk away from its cell wall because the water molecules in the cell moved to a higher concentration (outside the cell).
