1. Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT): It is also called “Ansar Bangla” and one of the radical Islamist groups presently operating in the area of Bangladesh. The main intent of said group is to establish an Islamic rule in the country as part of the global jihad. The group was first known as Jama’atul Muslemin in 2007 and in 2013, it was renamed as ABT, which effectively uses the internet and other mediums to promote their extremist ideas and to spread the messages from their al-Qaeda preachers, in order to radicalize the youth and encourage them to participate in the local Jihad (Admin, 2016). 2. Islamic State of Syria and the Levant (ISIL): This is an international terrorist and their presence in Bangladesh was evidently noticed due to their various terrorism activities like the murder of a Muslim Shiite preacher, hacking to death of a Christian convert, a secular blogger, a university professor, a gay activist and his friend, a Hindu tailor and a local Sufi cleric, all in Bangladesh in year 2016 and mostly claimed to have perpetrated by the said group. 5. Jagrata Muslim Janata Bangladesh (JMJB): This group also called themselves as the “Awakened Muslim Masses of Bangladesh” is an Islamist group based in the north-western part of Bangladesh. Said group is reported to have been affiliated with Al-Qaeda, an international terrorist. The group pursues the ideals of the Taliban and spread it through Islamic revolution based on Jihad (SATP, South Asia Terrorism Portal, 2001).
6. Hizb ut-Tahrir (Party of Liberation): It is an international pan-Islamic political organization and used to be associated with the objective of all Muslim countries to establish an Islamic state or caliphate, being ruled by the Islamic “Sharia” law. The said organization was established in Jerusalem in 1953 as a Sunni Muslim organization and since then, it was spread to more or less 50 countries with one (1) million members each country. Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS): It is an extremist group that came into existence in 1941 and the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, when the country was still part of Pakistan. It is concerned with the changing of the existing education system through emphasis of the Islamic values, provides the students the Islamic knowledge and be part in the establishment of Islamic way of life. Hence, the aim of the group is to establish an Afghanistan-Taliban type of Islamist regime in Bangladesh and they are against modernization, secularism and democracy (SATP, South Asia Terrorism Portal, 2001). 10. Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP): The party is among the many Maoist splinter groups in Bangladesh and was founded in 1968, after it was disconnected with the Bangladesh Communist Party (BCP).
