According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately “50,000 people in the United States” are newly infected with HIV each year. Just within the last few years specifically in 2010, around 47,000 became infected. A statistic shows that people who are becoming more infected are those who are gay/bisexual or African American people are most likely to become infected and more rapidly than other individuals. HIV has infected over half of Americans without even knowing and will continue to spread if preventative measures aren’t taken. Prevention methods include education of the infection and ways to protect yourself and others from spreading this infection. The level of education among individuals is not well known and not enough creditable resources are available for research when men or women become infected. There is no known cure for HIV infection as of today and that makes people not want to tell when they have become infected. Over seventy percent of men and women in America are unaware of prevention methods and the difference in the different diseases that are out there. One of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of HIV is through PPE (personal protective equipment) things like using condoms, keeping track of your partners and knowing who you are with. Having an open and honest talk about diseases and testing is important when it comes to your body because you never know what the other person is doing or has done. With limited resources available to individuals with the infection, they do have things such as videos and treatment plans available to people who have become infected and ways to cope with the idea that the disease will never go away. There is no cure or vaccination against HIV and AIDS however there are ways to protect you from getting the infection not only HIV but other sexually transmitted diseases and a healthier lifestyle.
