Most kids in my position grow up going to an average public school and working throughout high school to save up money for higher education such as college or trade school. Going to school and getting a college degree is how most people in this class plan on moving up in social class. Many times I have been told that the only way I can be successful and move up in the world is by getting a college degree. However, education is very different and provides different struggles for those in lower and middle class compared to the rich. Many people in the lower and middle class go to public school and start their college education in community colleges and have to pay for their entire college education by themselves. Growing up in this lower middle class has taught me the value of hard work and to push harder than everybody else. I worked for a company very briefly in a factor type of environment, running a CNC machine and making minimum wage where I would breath in many types of harmful chemicals that are known to cause cancer. Working that job motivated me to do everything I can to get a degree so I would never have to work a job like that again. This is something that many of the people born into the upper or rich class have not experienced. Having to work lower level jobs can help to make you more desirable for hiring companies. Having these blue collar jobs helps you gain experience and shows future employers that you are willing to work very hard and do what it takes to get the job done. Moving up in social classes is certainly attainable in the United States, however it is very difficult for someone who is apart of the lower or middle class. There are many things in the way of a person who is trying to move into a better class, but education and hard work help to create an opportunity for someone to be able to accomplish their goals.
